Things to do in Stratford: Cycling and Walking Tours

Before the cold winter wind begins to blow, explore Stratford via its gorgeous hiking and biking trails. Stratford, Ontario is a beautiful place to visit: The town itself is full of heritage buildings, cultural sites and charming shops and restaurants, but if you want to extend your Stratford experience, try branching out on the paths less-travelled for a wonderful weekend getaway.

The G2G Rail Trail

The people who live here love Stratford (and so do the visitors!). So, we’re very proud of our G2G Rail Trail, which extends 127 KM along the green space from the 401 corridor at Guelph to the shores of Goderich, Ontario.

Bike, walk and run along this historically and culturally significant conservation path to take in the beautiful rural areas along the way. This trail is accessible, safe and visually stunning, so take advantage of this community-supported corridor to see a long stretch of Ontario’s beautiful scenery.

Stratford Cycling Tour

No matter what level of cyclist you are, the Stratford Cycling Tour will be a great way to spend a few hours – or a full day. The ride itself is not challenging and, because of the way it’s routed, you will have multiple options to exit the trail or keep going to extend your ride. In total, the trail extends nearly 14 km, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to stop and take in Stratford’s sights, sounds, shops and flavours.

St. Marys – The Loop

If you want to incorporate a greater degree of culture and history into your hiking or biking tour of the areas surrounding Stratford, consider tackling The Loop. Along this route, you will encounter the home of the former Prime Minister, Arthur Meighen; the historic Junction Station; Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum; and the original water tower.

This 13-km trail is meant to be more enjoyable than challenging, but of course, that’s up to you and the speed you decide to travel. Either way, you can learn a lot along the route and get to know our quaint town, and its history, a little better.
