We had not been to The Parlour Restaurant for dinner for many years. In fact the last time we dined there it was known as The Old English Parlour. I am not sure why the restaurant ever fell off our dining radar. It was probably just a matter of having limited nights to dine when we visited Stratford and always wanting to try something “nouveau”. At any rate, having tired of over-the-top, over-priced restaurants, we decided to give The Parlour another visit. Are we ever glad that we did!
The atmosphere had changed much since our previous visits. It remains warm, woody and welcoming. We had a cozy booth that we enjoyed a lot. Our server, Hannah, was absolutely delightful–knowledgeable, efficient, charming, and attentive.
Our dinner was absolutely delicious. We started with an excellent Caesar salad that both my husband and I devoured. For our main course, we each had the prime rib. It was a very generous cut. The flavor was wonderful, perfectly roasted and spiced. The prime rib was very meaty and done to our preferred temperature. It was accompanied by a lovely Yorkshire pudding, potato and fresh vegetable.
Despite the fact that we had had an exceptionally satisfying dinner, we could not pass up the carrot cake dessert. The cake was layered and cut in an unusual square shape. The frosting separated the two layers. It was accompanied with two sauces that were divine. Absolutely delicious!! We have been raving to our family and friends about this dessert since we returned home two weeks ago!
The Parlour, like a long-time, dear friend, never disappoints. Can’t wait for our next opportunity to dine there. Thanks again to Hannah for her good humor and getting us to the theatre on time!
