One of the best parts of visiting Stratford is its convenient location, which puts you in the perfect position to take day trips to a number of wonderful entertainments, foodie and outdoor hubs.
Whether you want to sample produce from across Southwestern Ontario or you hope to explore our region’s rich history, when you stay in Ontario’s favourite theatre town, you won’t have to pick and choose – you get to enjoy it all.
Below, we’ve outlined some of the destinations our visitors like to travel to while they stay with us at The Parlour Inn. And, don’t worry, because these spots are so close by, you’ll be able to make it back into town for a delicious dinner at The Parlour Steakhouse!
Shakespeare, Ontario
If you’re visiting Stratford, we hope you’re already well aware of our love for all things Shakespearean. That’s why we’re delighted to have the town of Shakespeare just 15 minutes from our town. Not only is this charming area named after our favourite playwright, but it’s also a great place to shop and explore.
Shakespeare, Ontario is home to a great brewing company, the Shakespeare Brewing Company, where you can taste and purchase local beers. And, because nothing goes better with beer than bacon, be sure to stop into the Best Little Pork Shoppe while you’re there. If you want to pair your treats with a little outdoor activity, we highly recommend the area’s famous arboretum or a tour of the local antique stores.
Ingersoll, Ontario
Less than 40 minutes from Stratford, you’ll find the slightly larger town of Ingersoll, which has a lot to offer first-time and returning visitors. Walk to and from specialty shops to buy unique gifts, explore the area’s great antique shops and warehouses and enjoy an eclectic array of delicious – local and international – foods.
Explore the area’s various parks, play a round at the Ingersoll Golf Club or go fishing at Smith’s Pond. From natural intrigue through to a variety of vibrant festivals, Ingersoll is a great day trip destination from Stratford.
St. Marys, Ontario
Just 20 minutes from Stratford, you’ll find the hidden gem of St. Marys, which attracts both nature and history lovers from across Southwestern Ontario.
If you are bringing your family on your Stratford getaway, your little ones will be absolutely delighted with St Marys Swimming Quarry. This popular local swimming spot attracts visitors and locals alike and is a great place to jump into beautifully clear water or lounge on the grass in the sun.
Before or after your day of swimming and sunshine, pop into the St. Marys Museum, where you can learn about the town through thousands of photographs and artifacts. Don’t forget to stop for a snack in any one of the small cafes that line this heritage town’s quiet streets.
St. Jacobs, Ontario
St. Jacobs is renowned, within our province, for the artisanal and agricultural community fostered there. The 45-minute drive from Stratford to St. Jacobs is so worthwhile for those who are interested in exploring the unparalleled St. Jacobs Market where you’ll meet farmers, crafters and creators, from across the region, who will fill your bags with the most delicious and unique items you can imagine.
Head into the centre of St. Jacobs to stroll from antique shops to cute cafes that will make for a gorgeous afternoon before you come back to see us in Stratford for an evening of extraordinary dining and theatre.
